Abundances and composition of sympagic protists from the Arctic Ocean.
This dataset contains archival records of protist communities associated with Arctic sea ice collected between 1998 and 2017, covering regions of the Canadian and European Arctic. Samples were obtained as ice cores, primarily from the bottom ice layer (from the water interface to between 3 cm to 5 cm depending on conditions), and melted in filtered seawater at 2–4°C. Protists were identified to the lowest possible taxonomic level (preferably species) and enumerated using the Utermöhl method. Abundances were calculated for each taxon and normalized per square meter. Taxonomic names were verified against marinespecies.org.
